The Obama girls were a trending topic on social media this weekend(as usually) except people were wondering if the gowns the First Daughters wore to the State Dinner too expensive, and were they bought with tax payer dollars?

I don't know the correct answer, but I'm guessing the dresses were created and given as gifts to the girls. Think about it, if you had the chance to create a dress to be worn by the First Daughters, you would jump at the chance and make sure it was nothing less than exquisite.  I have a feeling that these gifts will be stored by the National Archives.

First Lady Michelle Obama wore a custom Jason Wu strapless floral gown, inspired by prints in the Fall 2016 collection.

Malia and Sasha Obama made their first State Dinner appearances in Naeem Khan gowns from the designer’s pre-fall and resort collections. Malia wore an absolutley stunning embellished Naeem Khan pre-fall 2015 gown made of all silk. It was originally retailed for $17,990, but however is no longer available for purchase.

Sasha wore a maroon black beaded lace gown that was treated with appliqué from the designer’s resort line-up. Originally priced at $19,990.

What do you think? Were the girls' gowns too expensive?
